PARAGON Annual 2017

I've just finished lettering 8 pages for the new Paragon annual which you can buy via the link below. The script I've been working on was the 2nd part of a 3 part story concerning one of Paragon's long running stories, Icarus Dangerous.

The other 2 letterers of this story are the awesome BOLT-01 and lettering legend Jim Campbell. I'm in exceedingly good company!

You can purchase the 2017 Paragon Annual here.

Apocal-oops

My posts usually start with an apology for the lack of weight-pulling in the updating of this blog and general lack of comic creativity. Well, not this time! I think I've got my mojo back for making comics. So, here's a quick one pager drawn by the always amicable Carol Kewley titled 'Apocal-oops'.

In other ME news, I've just finished lettering a 7 page script for a submission package titled 'Quantum's World'. Written by Frank Martin with art by Raúl Lara, it's a super hero story that spans multiple universes and I'll be lettering the full series if it gets picked up.

I've also just been handed a 8 page script to letter by editor Dave Candlish for the upcoming Paragon Annual, which I'm delighted to be a part of. This script is part two of a story called Icarus Dangerous; Mynx Tale scripted by Dirk van Dom and drawn by Scott Twells.

I'm also currently in the process of writing several stories of varying lengths. Some of these I intend to submit to various anthologies, others to actually get down and dirty and do the artwork myself! I'll be posting the first of these here very soon. Be warned, I've got some issues I need to get out of my system so it's going to get really fucking dark round here.

The Psychedelic Journal of the Wild West

Creating comics is a looooooooooong process. Writing a script is actually the easiest part! The real magic happens after the script has been submitted to a publisher.

I've currently got 4 scripts approved and in various stages of production. It can take anything up to three years for an accepted script to make it to print in an indie comic so it's always worth celebrating when a script matures in to a full blown comic strip.

My latest script to achieve this wondrous metamorphosis is a 4 page story called Vampires & Indians which appears in the all new The Psychedelic Journal of the West West, an annual brit comic anthology masterminded by Owen Watts & Geoffrey Crescent.

Vampires & Indians was drawn by the jaw-droppingly talented Dunk! Nimmo and lettered by the ubiquitous Bolt-01. It is a thing of total beauty and I'm super-happy-joyed at how it's turned out.

The Psychedelic Journal of the West West is currently only available to buy at comic conventions but will no doubt be purchasable via Comicsy in the near future. Be sure to buy it.

Hallowscream 8

Hallowscream comes but once a year, when you read it, you'll shake in fear.

This years Hallowscream is now live and available to download.  The 8th issue of this fangtastic horror comic anthology is one of the finest yet, with my trusty co-editor Mal Kirk pulling out all the stops to make it extra horrid including this lovely cover below.

Visit www.hallowscream.net to download the latest issue and grab the previous 7 if you fancy a late night full to the brim with terror.

Good Boy Rover

To atone for lack of comicsness in my life I decided to attempt this year's Inktober, a collective internet movement in which willing participates aim to complete one piece of art, for everyday in October, and post it online.

I managed to get four inky drawings online before real life cock-blocked me with a project I had to devote all my time to, thus putting an end to my inking fun. I had just managed to pencil this bugger below before it happened so I thought I'd finish it off and post it here.

Insane Asylum #1

I've been so out of the game recently I'd completely missed this comic that was launched in February of this year. Insane Asylum #1 features 5 short horror stories, one of which I had the pleasure of lettering late last year. Autumn Twilight, a 5 page Wild West horror yarn was written by Frank Martin, with pencils by CWMAX, inks by John Dixon, and lettering by Tim West. That's me!

You can pick up a copy of this over on the Insane Comics website.

Hallowscream! 2016 Evil Eighth Issue Submission Guidelines!

Slightly later than usual, but we at Back From The Depths are once again looking for contributors for our freaky free, annual pdf horror comic, HALLOWSCREAM, so here are the submission guidelines…

Submissions should be horror orientated and must be weird or spooky to make the final cut.
We are mainly looking for completed comic strips between 1-7 pages in length. Anything already completed is far more likely to make it into the comic.
Script submissions should also preferably be around 1-7 pages in length.
Eerie illustrations and artwork along with interesting horror/comic articles, scary short stories, petrifying poems or anything just plain creepy will also be considered.
To get an idea of the sort of stuff we’re after, you can download previous issues of Hallowscream here.

If you’re looking to illustrate something, get in contact and we’ll give you details of available scripts to see if anything suits your fancy.
We’ll also consider material previously published elsewhere, as long as the contributors own the copyright.

Completed artwork can be either colour or black and white, and should preferably be A4 (21cm x 29.7cm) 300 dpi jpeg or png.

Submissions can be sent to merjeagles@yahoo.co.uk or ghastlymcnasty@backfromthedepths.co.uk
As this is a non-profit, small press publication, contributors will not be paid but they will retain copyright on any material submitted.

DEADLINES :
Scripts, articles and text submissions : Sunday 31st July 2016
Artwork : Monday 17th October 2016
Completed strips : Monday 24th October 2016.
The finished issue will be available online as a free pdf by October 31st, with a physical copy becoming available via Lulu.com, shortly afterwards. You can also keep up to date with Hallowscream news via the Facebook Page.
